What is developmental neuropsychology?
Developmental neuropsychology is a professional specialty focused on learning and behavior in relationship to a child’s brain. A developmental neuropsychologist is a licensed psychologist with expertise and specific training in how learning and behavior are associated with the neurodevelopment of brain structures and systems. Early childhood is a critical period in development. Many different abilities and behaviors are rapidly developing, including a child’s cognitive, language, motor, social, emotional, behavioral, and emerging academic skills. If concerns arise that your child is not making age-appropriate progress in one or more of these domains, they may benefit from a developmental neuropsychological evaluation. The developmental neuropsychologist conducts the evaluation, interprets the results, and makes specific recommendations.
